<p>Last week the M70 V12 Water pump finally gave way after almost 3 years in my care, and abuse(?). Not to mention many more years before my possession of the engine.</p>
<p>The engine was part of an imported, scrapped E32 750il from Japan. I would like to think it has never been changed before this as most old BMs are pretty bulletproof<span id="more-1169"></span></p>

<p>Look at the size of the water pump. It looks more like a turbo from a Golf GTI</p>

<p>Thermostat above also unique to the E32 750il and E31 850i, which makes it so exclusive and expensive. Fortunately I got it at stock-clearance bargain buying from Singapore <img src='http://www.euroasians.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>Here&#8217;s a video of the mechanics trying to start the engine to make sure the V12 works before i buy it. It did start, but had really lumpy idling. I found out after that that the 750i ran on 2 fuel pumps and the guys at Duke Racing used only 1 fuel pump to supply fuel. Nevertheless, it was still a joy watching the marvelous engine come to life &#8211; almost.</p>

<p><strong>MAF Conversion</strong><br />
My all-time favourite addition to the M20 engine.</p>
<p>Verdict:<br />
MAF really does wonders to the laggy M20. Especially revving from idle onwards. Forget fluctuating revs at gas-off. expect instantaneous response with a press of the pedal.</p>
<p><strong>How:</strong><br />
For this, some kind of a ecu tuning device is required. For this, i used the existing Unichip i have already been using for at least the last 6 years.</p>
<p>You can easily replace the AFM with the MAF without tuning the ECU and the engine will work but the car will be next to undriveable. you could probably try using a fuel and ignition altering device on your own. just make sure you have an aif/fuel ratio gauge to monitor performance.</p>
<p>There are 2 options for manipulating the existing air temperature probe. To dig the existing one out from the M20 AFM and plugging it in to the MAF and wiring it or to use an adjustable voltage resistor to emulate temperature reading to the ECU. but the reading will be a stagnant one. I prefer the easier resistor route.<br />
<strong><br />
M50 Injectors Conversion<br />
</strong>Forget lumpy performance.</p>
<p>Verdict:<br />
I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s the age or part of wear and tear, but the M20 injectors actually streams rather than mist the fuel. No matter how many times it&#8217;s cleaned, ultrasonically or not, i never got the M20 injectors to spray properly.</p>
<p>Other significant differences of the M50 Injectors are the 4 smaller nozzles instead of the M20 single large nozzle.</p>
<p>If you have problems with cold starts or lumpy performance, get a set of M50 injectors instead.</p>
<p>By the way:<br />
Anyone&#8217;s got a 3&#8243; air filter for sale? Running without one now.<br />
