With my recent overhaul on the Cylinder heads due to a head gasket failure, the intake manifolds, head covers were sent for powdercoating and had actually been re-assembled and had the car running. What I didn’t know was that the con rod bearings were also shot due to coolant being mixed with the lube during the initial head gasket failure.

The engine then had to be pulled out again and disassembled to replaced the bearings. I took the opportunity to send the timing case, and distributor covers for powder coating to match the rest of the engine.

As you can see from the photoshopped picture above, the extra reds on the front now compliments the majestic V12

Here are the parts sandblasted and excess casting marks ground off

Powdercoated in the same Orangey-red. the only Red available

After an unfortunate need to do an impromptu top overhaul due to a head gasket failure (more on that on a later post), the engine is now out of the car and being disassembled. The heads will be removed as well as the valve covers, intake manifolds and millions of other fixtures

Recently, i stumbled across powder coating services which i have wanted to try out and the reasearch has paid off. This is the perfect time to bring the parts out for powdercoating. I contacted rempojo powder coating today and brought the parts over.

The process involves:

Sandblasting

Powder Coating

Negative Charging the Powder

Positive Charging the metal part

Oven Baking

It was only after i sent the parts over that i had actually start deciding on the colour theme. The picture above is what i had just came up with. It should look pretty good and will match the red interior

What’s Decided:

Red Intake Manifolds

Red Throttle body housing

Silver Valve covers beneath intake manifolds

Other Wild possiblities

Last week the M70 V12 Water pump finally gave way after almost 3 years in my care, and abuse(?). Not to mention many more years before my possession of the engine.

The engine was part of an imported, scrapped E32 750il from Japan. I would like to think it has never been changed before this as most old BMs are pretty bulletproof

Look at the size of the water pump. It looks more like a turbo from a Golf GTI

Thermostat above also unique to the E32 750il and E31 850i, which makes it so exclusive and expensive. Fortunately I got it at stock-clearance bargain buying from Singapore

A trip up to Genting Highlands with Ryan (Z4 MCoupe) and Shaun (S2000) ended at the outdoor parking area where we chilled out for a bit in the chilly and wet weather. The wet and cold surface calls for some donuts and by the 6th and a half baked donut, the V12 spews smoke. Popped the bonnet and more oil sprinkles up and everywhere being flicked from the radiator fan. The V12 is now caramalized from the oil glaze. As for what went wrong, it was an oil hose failure.

Here’s Meguiar’s CEO Barry Meguiar posing with my humble ride. It’s a real pleasure meeting the legend today especially having been a Meguiar’s die hard fan for years. He is here in Malaysia on a business tour along with his great team of Meguiar’s staff. Special thanks to Meguiar’s Distributor, Hypercoat for the media invitation. It’s a shame the car wasn’t detailed prior to this.

A V12 engine is a V engine with 12 cylinders mounted on the crankcase in two banks of six cylinders, usually at a 60° angle to each other, but in some cases at a wider or narrower angle, with all 12 pistons driving a common crankshaft.[1]

Since each cylinder bank is essentially a straight-6, this configuration has perfect primary and secondary balance no matter which V angle is used and therefore needs no balance shafts. A V12 with two banks of six cylinders angled at 60°, 120°, or 180° from each other has even firing with power pulses delivered twice as often per revolution as, and is smoother than a straight-6 because there is always even positive net torque output with little variation. This allows for great refinement in a luxury car. In a racing car, the rotating parts can be made much lighter and thus more responsive, since there is no need to use counterweights on the crankshaft as is needed in a 90° V8 and less need for the inertial mass in a flywheel to smooth out the power delivery. In a large displacement, heavy-duty engine, a V12 can run slower than smaller engines, prolonging engine life.
