Found a set of an almost-new Whiteline front 27mm anti roll bar on the bmw-sg forums and I had to have it. Whiteline don’t make them anymore for the E34 since 2008. I also missed my purchase during my trip to Sydney some years ago. I have been looking for a proper adjustable ARB for a long time now after having experienced the ride in a friends’ car. This piece i found was so new, it was merely test-installed, it was then left in storage for a couple of years.

Here’s a comparison between: (from top)

Whiteline 27mm

E34 540i

Alpina E34 anti roll bar

Most of the stock bars for the BMW E34 are about 22MM. I removed my 750il bar and was surprised they were marginally bigger than the 540i’s bar at 24mm. (it’s for sale too -with powerflex PU bushes -i’ll take a pic soon)

Even the 750iL bar itself was fantastic at the bends. but nothing compares to this..

I had a friend install the bar for me and had it set to max-hard

A quick impression of the Whiteline upgrade? The front seems even more planted now with both front struts working better together. Even cruising in a straight line made significant difference on less than perfect road surfaces. It seems to compliment the heavier V12 very well.

In short, it’s so much better in all-aspects. The front feels lighter now and it turns so much more precisely like what a performance car feels like.

The parts are being bolted as i post this. I have been running the E34 with my old E30 3:73 LSD mounted on the older, smaller E34 rear subframe. How, you ask?, well that’s because i’ve also been using the M20 long-shaft and most other rear drive parts, including the driveshafts, brakes. That is unacceptable but good enough until now. So I recently found a guy who supplied me with the 540i rear axle complete with:

540i Subframe

540i 2:93 LSD

540i 15mm rear anti roll bar

540i Driveshafts

540i Longshaft

540i Ventilated rear brakes

Pretty lucky to have found these parts and are still in supreme condition. Possibly parted from a mint 540i

Thicker anti-roll bar.

Immaculate LSD

Tight Diff

Bigger driveshafts

Larger Longshaft

Rear brakes – Ventilated (not illustrated?)

Let’s see how it drives. I have been having vibration problems from the longshaft as well as embarrassing top speeds. Not to mention rear diff free-play from the E30 LSD

Pictures from Realoem.com – Where you want to be when searching for BMW parts. It’s like the ETK for the uninformed.

Here they are. Speedworks got my Hot Bits made in about 2 weeks. Basically, like before, it requires the factory Front E34 struts to be mated to the Hot Bits coilovers. I’ve gone the damping adjustable route this time, coupled with external oil canister for the rears. It’s unfortunate that the fronts couldn’t accommodate the canisters due to space and E34 Strut design constraints. But I may have it made in the future and have the front canisters piped into the engine bay, if it’s not too far.

The rear unit with the canister as shown. Compared to my previous Titan coil overs, the Hot bits looks much better built, has better aesthetics and includes the little little details like polyurethene spring shims, anodized spring perches and so on. Much better thought of i’d say and has probably seen lots of technical improvments through the years.

A trolley for each client. What a rare and pleasent experience. A definite must for all workshops here in Malaysia. As you can see, that’s a new rear suspension top mount. I’ve also had new front top mounts ordered. Hot Bits also makes camber adjustable front top mounts, but that’ll be for another day.

Here are the pictures of the poweflexes for the E34 in a complete kit!. I ordered them through a Singapore dealer Hotwheels for a good deal. The package took like 2 weeks to arrive which isn’t too long. I am really happy with the way it is package. For some people, package makes a difference. They are boxed in various sized, semi-transparent packaging for different bush dimensions.

Also in the package, Powerflex provided steel sleeves and plates to eliminate any need of re-using the worned out or warps parts that you get in older cars. Like in my case, the Rear-axle beam bushes has never been replaced in my hands for the last 7 years?, i’m guess it’s like 10-12 years old. Nevertheless, the new bushes will make a world of a difference in handling.

Other stuff like the Powerflex grease is also included. So if you were to get new bushes, i’d recommend these. i think the whole kit came out to like $230+ GPB?
