E34: 1 Picture update.

170320101901

Here’s a picture after a much needed wash collecting it from the workshop for an Alternator fix. I will also post more pictures of the rear spacer addition. Since the 19X9.5 Type 2 came, the spacer that used to be on, which was probably a 30mm had to be removed.

Now the rears are pretty flushed with a 15mm. You can probably notice despite the lousy picture.

  1. looking good there bro!!

  2. hi prime, andrew,

    Thanks,

I will be sending the car in for a full detailing job. That will be the time :) I have a few more pictures coming after this post..

Sugi: why don’t you post yours too?

    mat: how can i help?

  3. Tom : I will send u the picture of my car after I find the right spot and setting to take good picture ;p still trying to shoot the car with good angle .

  4. Tom,
Please may i know which work shop do you go to?

I am currently asking around of ways to increase the power of my car, maybe turbo, super charge or vanos.

and where do i find reasonable spare parts?

It would great if i could meet up with you..

    Cheers,
    Mat

  5. hi mat

i go to a few places depending on what i need to do and whichever nearer actually

for parts, you can call bavarian auto, they have branches in segambut and cheras and few other places probably

    as for power..
yeah, the forced induction route is pretty cool though you should do more research before committing your money. a proper off-the-shelf supercharge kit should be safer.

    is yours a M20 or M50 525i?

in any case, a manual transmission conversion should make you at least 20% more happy, if you like manuals of course

  6. Tom,

mine is the M50B25 525i 24V, altough i dont quite know what it means.

i have been looking for super charger… but no luck. any advise?

    how much manual conversion cost?

Tom, if u dont mind, we could correspond via email.
    tehyw87@gmail.com

    Mat

  7. okay, the M50 engines are the newer 24 valve engine and double cams and look a lot more modern.
the M20 were the older engines that had 12 valves and a single cam. it has the spider looking thing that’s the intake manifold.

try searching on http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com, sometimes good stuff can be found for sale there

i cant tell you how much the manual conversion will cost. but you should be looking at RM5 -10K fitted.

  8. tom,
ok, i am on for the manual conversion. pls advise. thanks.
do you think its safe to upgrade to a 3.0 or 2.8?
    mat.

  9. hi mat,

for the manual conversion, i guess the next step will be either source your parts or let the workshop solve your problem. congrats on your decision

it depends how you’d like to get your 2.8 or 3.0
The regular practice is sourcing parts from the cheaper E36 2.8 or there are even complete E46 330i M54 engines available for your purpose.

as for safe? safe as in reliability, well if you’ve got a good shop to do the conversion, it should drive as well as it should. safe as in from the authorities

  10. Tom

good advise. which workshop u recommend? cuz i asked ard, no one does these stuff.. i am looking to send in my car this week la. if possible.
the bmw forum a lot of problem. i cant operate it properly..

if you free, consider la take me around… i buy you a meal or something… but i would really love to meet you. if possible lo.

    Mat

  11. hi Mat

    no probs,
you can try BM World in Bandar Tun Razak. his number is 016220687, you can call him Ah Wai. he should be able to advise you. You could also technically start this week

Sure, i could even visit you when your car is at the shop. always love to meet people who shares the same passion with these old BMs

  12. Tom,

i have visited a workshop yesterday at kucai lama, i think i have decided on upgrading to a 2.8 first. 300cc extra with a higher engine compression, not much changes needed.i thknk its called the sugar kit??? twin vanos will cause too much time and $$$.

i also checked the manual conversion. it was around 7k. maybe i will fix up the 2.8 first and then only manual.

    will call ur guy too..
    Mat

  13. hey tom,
i sent my car to wai. supercharging it. thanks for ur help. hope to see u over there..
    mat

  14. hi Mat so you bought over Siva’s charger, i thought i saw a white E34 being worked on by a welder to fabricate pipings last week,
so it’s you. The charger was already well nestled in there. congrats!

  15. gosh.. now i need a manual gear box… what next? smaller pulley for supercharger, then what? follow siva for a turbo????? omg..
anyway, thanks for introducing me the workshop, its good, although a bit expensive….

  16. h mat

everyone needs a manual in a BM :)
you should start sourcing for one. it’ll be one of the best investments made. probably better than the supercharger money.

i’m not sure if he can be considered expensive, i’m not saying not. cos even i complain all the time.

but i’ve gone to places where sometimes they don’t even charge and get the worst service. the thing with choosing a shop is to be able to pass them your problem and return to collect it actually fixed

  17. hi tom,

wai is gonna hook me up with a manual gearbox soon..
anyway, i do agree with you. hope to see u in person soon! see ur car at the workshop, but dont see u..

also, i wanna ask 4 ur advise, if i wanted more power, and get a smaller pulley for higher pressure, do i need a piggy bag? if so, how much will it cost?

    cheers,
    mat

  18. hi mat

just found out you are a young chap (like me) when i visited ah wai last night. I’m sure he can sort out your desires and in record time too.

    as for engine management,
have you got anything to manage your new charger? or you’re relying on the stock motronic?

It’s always a good idea to optimize your mods with a piggyback, a relash or even a standalone ECU.

But for best cost effective solution, it’s always a piggyback.

If you’re looking into popular alternatives like the Unichip, it should set you back at about RM2500(?) installed and tuned.

google for Unichip Puchong or RS Impressive.
The guy to look for is Robyn who tunes Unichip (and other products as well). He also now owns the business.

There are also other alternative like the piggy backs from Haltech or even their latest standalones that i heard was going for RM3K plus, which is pretty affordable for such a product.

try searching for GT Auto Sunway. The boys, Thomas and Toby should be able to hook you up with the best Haltech toys

  19. Tom,

i also know a guy who does UNIchip! now he is at klang. and sama price la, 2500 ish… but my boost is only 0.3bar. wai said no need to piggy bag.. stock ecu should do..

but if i were to increase it any more, i need to piggy bag.. i asked ard sunway, no one does E34.. how sad…

i think i will manual 1st, and see how it goes..
would you by any chance stay ard subang area? i though i saw ur car entering subang today…

oh, n if i havent said this, i realli like ur car…

  20. hi mat

well, if that’s the case, i think it’s okay not to do any ECU mods at the moment.

The manual conversion will bring you more smiles for sure, i’d advise you to do that. It’ll feel like you’ve got a different car.

Nope, i’m based in KL actually. I do go everywhere but i didn’t pass subang last night. I did use the Duke highway last night though

  21. yea will fix the manual.
when r u coming in to the workshop? maybe we can have a chat.
might go visit the unichip fella today with a friend..

  22. hi mat

i should be visiting ah wai tomorrow to collect the MINI

good luck on your unichip project :)

  23. sigh… wai havent sort out the gearbox… he keep saying the parts are not complete…

  24. tom,

wai mentioned that he found a new engine management system, apparently its an add on, like a piggy bag, but it tunes itself, from canada. what do you think?

    mat

  25. i’m not sure which one is that but any piggyback should work.

as for how it tunes itself, i’m really not sure
have you done any research on the product?

  26. hi Mat

    Nope, but i did some research and found this;
    http://www.millerperformancecars.com/war-chip.html

does look interesting, especially when you mentioned is cheap.
Seems like a versatile and programmable Eprom chip.

If Wai can tune it and If you’re looking at just optimizing your charger, I think it’s worth a try.
