hi patrik.

Wow, you've done much research. I'm expecially interested in the throttle settings. I feel that it's somehow restricting itself at the lower revs.

From my previous manual throttles setup on my other V12, the engine felt much more alive and in sync with the pedal.

Since i'm not running ABS and the ASC, it s either the lack of sensors or wiring. Could this have made the throttles go into safe-mode like you described? If so, would you know how i can bypass the asc and abs from the EML?

I'd really like to hear more about your chip finding from your experience, patrick, i'll also do more research on the possibilities of hacking the EML.

Thanks!

Hello again!
The throttle control lies in the third ECU-box, the EML. It uses the injector timing (which in turn get their calculations by measured air from the MAF) from the two Engine-ECUs to calculate and syncronize the two throttles. Also, in those models featured, the ASC (AntiSpinControl) lies in the EML by reading the ABS-sensors and then restricting torque by reducing throttle.
Another feature that I and my mentor has found out is that as an old school torque-control, the throttles just open 45deg below 3800rpm. You can feel the difference most clearly in third gear when you approach 3800-4000rpm (about 140kph). My 750iL even drops 200rpm when the throttles opens up fully, and you can really feel the difference in acceleration.
This is a harder matter of chipping though. I have asked my own brand of chip-tuner to make a full-torque version of the EML-chip, but for now I have no chip made yet.
Another way around the problem is to skip the EML totally and go fully mechanical. I have still to find out if the auto-trans has any objections about that...or one has to get a manual-trans and a aftermarket EMS too.

the quest goes on...//Patrik

Ooo, come on , Tom. Don't wait too long. just paint it and fit them to 550i.
I'm very curious with the look with 19" ACS II .

hi patrik

thanks for the compliments
flat black will be pretty nice if they had came that way

I did find that many M70 V12 tuners complaining about the poor intake manifold design.

As for chipping it, i was planning to put on a piggyback (or two), perhaps the Unichip.

Thanks for inviting me along on your V12 tuning quest Patrik. Would your eprom (i assume) chips be able control throttle response too? I find it kinda lazy until you get it up to speed.

I am also very interested to know more about your intake manifold design.

Do tell me more Patrik

thanks!

Hello! I must say that you have really found the soul and essense of the true BMW-spirit! Unbelievable that they never came in flat black since it really suits them perfectly. I own three V12s myself, 850i, 750i and 750iL. Since they all are quite old I have done some heavy servicework on them, and since I run an engine development and tuning company, I couldn't resist doing some calculations about the engine setup. I found out that the intakes are too long and the plenums are too small. Also the OEM mapping is VERY restrict to say at least, and a couple of tuning chips whould not only give you a few horses more, but a significant improved milage. If I could get one of my associates to weld a shorter "powerful" intake, whould you be interested in a couple of those together with a set of tuning chips? Please fell free to contact me by email for further dialog about V12s and BMWs, even if you dont want my help. I find your project very interesting and would like to discuss more with you.
