  1. nice update, Tom
bigger picture mean more detail we can see about your project.
Nice photo also, looks clean in the engine bay.
    keep update your project
so now run in auto gearbox ?

  2. hi sugi thanks again,

yeah, it is now an automatic. hopefully not for long though.
the auto is great but in the end, the manual is always my choice

  3. Hey, I’ve been thinking about putting a M73 V12 from a late model E38 and I saw how beautiful yours came out… Could you tell me what you all did to make it work (The Second Time) i.e. Swap engine, swap transmission, beef up front suspension to handle the excess weight of the V12, brake improvements, that sort of thing. I will want to keep mine an Automatic Transmission because that has been my overall preference.

Last but not least; how much did you spend if you don’t mind me asking. I live in the US so I’m just trying to get a ballpark of what this will cost.

Please Email when you have the time.
    Thank You.
    Benjamin

  4. hi benjamin

congrats with the plans, i’m sure the M73 will be even better than the M70 which is old, and perhaps more tedious since there will be more parts to replace due to age. I can’t be fully sure how similar the conversion would be, but it won’t be rocket science.

The M73′s overall size and shape is the same and dropping in the engine into an E34 should not be a problem. i used the 750iL’s mounts for the conversion so that’s straightforward. but you might want to make sure the alignment for yours. if not, just replace them with a mounting that would fit.

so how i made it all work is, simply transfer everything you can from the donor 750. I transferred the engine, wiring(front) steering, aircon, even the front struts and brakes if you want. treat is as a similar 7 series you’re transferring to. but being an E38 i don’t know how much you can transfer. but i am confident it’ll work

well the donor costs about US2500 here and then there’s labour charges for US2000 including small items like mounts, new hoses etc. I then had to rebuild the transmission just a month later for USD1000 to change the clutch packs

    good luck
