-MAF Conversion
-M50 Injectors

MAF Conversion
My all-time favourite addition to the M20 engine.

Verdict:
MAF really does wonders to the laggy M20. Especially revving from idle onwards. Forget fluctuating revs at gas-off. expect instantaneous response with a press of the pedal.

How:
For this, some kind of a ecu tuning device is required. For this, i used the existing Unichip i have already been using for at least the last 6 years.

You can easily replace the AFM with the MAF without tuning the ECU and the engine will work but the car will be next to undriveable. you could probably try using a fuel and ignition altering device on your own. just make sure you have an aif/fuel ratio gauge to monitor performance.

There are 2 options for manipulating the existing air temperature probe. To dig the existing one out from the M20 AFM and plugging it in to the MAF and wiring it or to use an adjustable voltage resistor to emulate temperature reading to the ECU. but the reading will be a stagnant one. I prefer the easier resistor route.

M50 Injectors Conversion
Forget lumpy performance.

Verdict:
I don’t know if it’s the age or part of wear and tear, but the M20 injectors actually streams rather than mist the fuel. No matter how many times it’s cleaned, ultrasonically or not, i never got the M20 injectors to spray properly.

Other significant differences of the M50 Injectors are the 4 smaller nozzles instead of the M20 single large nozzle.

If you have problems with cold starts or lumpy performance, get a set of M50 injectors instead.

By the way:
Anyone’s got a 3″ air filter for sale? Running without one now.
By the way, i’ve got some things i may sell:
-M20 B25 AFM
-Huge K&N Air filter
-K&N Air Filter original attachment bracket for the AFM

  1. car rocks well done is the M70 good for turbocharging? Are you going to turbo it? I heard M20s are tough and good for turbo charging if you expand it from B25 > B27 with M21 crankshaft and shorter con rods and then a turbo will do the job and get 400-500hp with stock pistons, no point of V12 dont u think>

  2. thanks!

Car isn’t out yet though. looking forward to it this week..
i do have plans to turbo it though

  3. Nice car, and very low also. It makes the wheel look bigger than actual size.
By the way, where you get those AC Schnitzer replica kit ? can I get any contact person ( e-mail, etc ) with the shop ? Like them to install to my car. Look simple and low.
    Nice job bro

  4. Hey i’ll be interested in buying that huge k&n filter of urs

any recommendation? advice? which workshop to go to etc.

after which i wanna try a MAF conversion and then your m50 injector and after tat maybe turbo.

  8. I would love to know where you got your coilovers from. I’ve never heard of Titan before.

  9. Perfect. Better than the e34 that has been floating around in my head for two years. I love the stance and most importantly no chrome!! I was thinking of doing a later model e34 just for the upgrade in engine but you proved it can be done…

  10. hey, i recently let the lady drive my schnitzer and she cracked my front lip on a curb. im not sure if yours is an original schitzer, but i was wondering if you know where i could find a fresh kit, i’ve been looking for months to replace it, and have had no luck.

  11. they’re 8.5 all round, with the offset of 18 i think.

I have 15mm spacers in the rear and 12mm in the front

    Thanks!

  12. schnitzer_drew:

hey, sorry for the late reply

nope, mine are not the originals come to think of it, even the wheels aren’t the originals

are you willing to get it from here?

  13. oh no problem, well im pretty much willing to get it anywhere i can find one. so far you’re my best bet. looks like you were able to find quite a few schnitzer parts, do you have a supplier or what? or price range on parts? im not in a huge rush, just any information you have would be very helpful.
    thanks

  14. hi schnitzer

    no problems

there’s a local guy here who makes replicas of the schnitzer kit.
they go for about a few hundred US dollars

  15. ah i see, well thats not bad, where are you located, i’d be interested in looking into this as long as the shipping costs dont overcome the value right. im in Calgary, Canada so… thanks tom.

  21. Hi Tom, I am about to start on my E34/M70 conversion as soon as I get back from Christmas Holidays. One thing I have been pondering is, what have you done in the way of the braking system? I have a complete 750iL which is still driving on the road today which is being used as the donor. I intend to pull everything off and swap across. Im quite interested to see what you have done with the ABS unit, how much grief it has given you relocating the unit behind the front left head light I assume?

  22. hi mate i am from holland an i am looking for the body kitt schnitzer kit can you mail me the adres or contact details please help i am so tired looking fore it i wane finish mine ride i got a e34 from 1993 an i love mine car more tham mine wife so please help me!!! (michelvoogd@gmail.com)

  23. niblet:
cool!, the world needs more 550is
virtually everything from the 750i/l can be swapped accross, though like you said, some parts need to be relocated and have brackets made, but they should all fit :) the hydraulic brakes also swaps across so no probs with that. i also run the a/c system including the blower and control unit from the 750il.

    angelsbmw:
i’m not sure if its worth it for you to send the whole set to holland. but i’d love to help. it’s something about holland / amsterdam, a place i’d love to visit soem time soon.
